Founded in 1919 by Henry E. Huntington, The Huntington Library is a recreational and educational center. The "library" consists of large and ever expanding botanical gardens, art exhibits and more. A great place for kids to explore and learn; and a romantic and meditative environment for people of all ages.



The library has gardens, green houses, a museum, variety of eating areas, gift shops, and even a mausoleum where the founders are buried!

Popeyes' Mukbang #2 | Asian Girl Tries Popeyes Bonafide Fried Chicken an...

 Let's eat with Linda! Today on Foodie Friday, I am trying out Popeyes' Chicken for the second time! This time I made sure to get their bonafide fried chicken on the bone. I ordered a leg and thigh with Cajun Fries, Sweet Heat sauce, and Mardi Gras Mustard.



Sasha4president and LennyStepbyStep highly suggested I try those two sauces. They charged me for I believe 25 cents each for the sauces but I must say it was definitely worth it! The sweet heat sauce reminded me of a syrup version of Crystal hot sauce and the Mardi Gras Mustard was the ultimate, creamy horseradishy and mildly sweet mustard sauce. Highly recommend the mustard for the fries and sweet heat for the chicken, but the seasoning on both the fries and chicken were good enough already. Yum!

In this video, Maria explains a little bit about the Salvadorian food on our table. My friends from High School and I meet up for a lunch reunion at a restaurant called La Santaneca.



La Santaneca is a Salvadorian and Mexican Restaurant in San Francisco. They have two locations along Mission street. The one my friends and I went to is located in the Bernal Heights district.

Let's eat! Today on Foodie Friday, I have a Steak and Salad Mukbang. This video has a cooking demo in the beginning with sizzling sounds if you are into that. I also show you guys how I make my creamy Honey Mustard salad dressing.

MY REVIEW:

The BBQ mat comes in a set of 5 rolled up mats. The materials feels similar to a raincoat, but with a thicker and sturdier feel. The instructions say to place mat on a preheated grill. However, the material is so thick and heat does not penetrate nor store very well in the BBQ Mat, that I feel for best results, you must heat it along with your grill. Perhaps a flame grill will be different as that would create higher heat.



The first test showed no grill marks on my steak. Disappointed, I tried doing a grilled cheese sandwich and putting on weights. Even with added weight, no grill marks showed through. Thus failing the grill mark test.



The mat though does have positive qualities. No plastic fumes were emitted when heated and the clean up really is a snap. All juices and oil literally wipes off the mat easily. All you need is a quick rinse, no scrubbing. Thus the non-stick and easy clean claim is true.



Overall I would say the only department it fails in is making grill marks. You can cook on the mat, very easy clean up, and since the material is sturdy I can see it being reused over and over for a long period of time. The material is also dishwasher safe but with food and oil coming off easy with a rinse, I don't see a reason to put it in your dish washer.

Failed Grill Mark test on my Cast Iron Grill

Tai Chi Jian Bing | Chinese Street Food | Fried Breakfast Crepe | SF Eat...



Jian Bing is the latest Chinese Street food hitting the U.S. In Chinese, Jian Bing translates to Fried Pancake.

In this video, I give you a tour of a place in San Francisco that serves authentic Jian Bing. The place is called Tai Chi Jian Bing. Their base crepe is made from soybean flour, which is then delicately topped with eggs making it a cross between a savory crepe and an omelette with crunchy wonton fillings and sweet and spicy sauce.

We ordered their:
1) Original Jian Bing
2) Be Franks Jian Bing
3) Salmon Jian Bing

My favorite has to be the salmon. It is sprinkled with what appears to be dried salmon meat flakes, before being wrapped into what looks almost like a pop tart/pastry puff.

First food vlog for Foodie Friday! It's been a overwhelming week with Post Election stress but now that is beginning to die down, I thought it would be nice to make a very quick food vlog. OOZOO Face Injection Mask Review | Hydro Lift | First Impressions | Unbo...



Today in the UBI Beauty Haul Review series, I am reviewing The OOZOO Face Injection Mask. The one I opened says "Hydrolift". The intended purposes of the mask I am assuming is for intense moisturizing. They also have other face masks such as "Nutrient" and "Illuminating".



Out of all the Korean Beauty Skincare sheet masks I've seen, this one takes the award of most interesting contraption. The little ampoule is cute, looks like a fake syringe. Obviously, nothing is going to be injected into the dermal or epidermal layer. The syringe merely has the same moisturizing serum solution as what is already on the sheet mask.



The Ingredients list shows many active ingredients up on the top; and fragrance and preservative on the bottom. This is a good sign that you are getting your money's worth. Nothing is more disappointing than buying a product that has soo many claims and it just mostly is comprised of water or fillers. This mask will not disappoint in the ingredients department. It is jam packed both with synthetic and natural extracts tailored to moisturizing and anti aging functions.



Be forewarned though that there hat there is fragrance and the ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) may be a irritant for people with sensitive skin. Though the Vitamin C does have antioxidant functions.



Instructions say to mix solution into the storage packet container to make sure product is evenly saturated. Rip the perforation and take out the sheet mask. Place mask on skin for 20 minutes. When you remove the mask your face should feel hydrated and plump. If any irritation occurs, remove mask immediately.



Overall I am happy with the results. The sheet mask hydrates my face as all sheet masks should. My skin feels plump and springy. The scent is a cross between white tea and gelatin so not overly offensive. The sheet mask is cute but would I buy this over other sheet masks in the Korean beauty market? Probably not as there are more affordable options and this one did sting a little.



My verdict for this product is 4/5 stars. 1 star marked off for Fragrance and slight irritation. But the fragrance is on the bottom end of the ingredients list so not a huge factor. If it was overly perfumey, I would have marked another star off, making it 3/5 stars.

The "Tuna" salad is from Nourish Cafe and made with nuts and seeds (sunflower seeds, almonds, celery, onions) and is tossed with a "Shallot Mustard Chia Seed Vinaigrette". The salad is completely vegan with some raw sunflower sprouts, romaine lettuce, fingerling potatoes, cherry tomatoes, avocado and cucumber. 

I also grabbed myself some fancy Hawaiian Volcanic Water. The brand is called Waiakea. The water claims to be naturally alkaline because of the trace minerals and also have electrolytes to hydrate you in the best possible way.

MUKBANG - Asian American Girl Tries VEGEMITE for the First Time | Weird ...



Chinese American girl tries Vegemite for the first time. Today I'm trying out a "weird" Australian Food product called VEGEMITE. If you have seen the Buzzfeed videos, this is a food product that is supposedly an acquired taste. This food spread is similar to Marmite and is listed as a "Yeast Extract". I was told that Australians eat it on toast. Supposedly, the proper way is to spread vegemite on top of toast/sandwich bread with some butter.



I'm trying this out two ways. On untoasted white sandwich bread and then later on toasted white bread. I also switch the order I spread the butter and vegemite.



The first time I went heavy on the vegemite. The second time, I knew better and put a thin layer. I believe a thin layer is usually suggested.



Hope you guys enjoy my first impressions, and review of Vegemite. This is for fun!



I think overall, Vegemite is a very tasty spread if used sparingly on toast. But I can see how some people might find the smell and taste pungent and strong. It is very reminiscent of very strong and concentrated soy sauce flavored ramen packets.

Popeyes' Mukbang | Asian Girl Tries Popeyes for the First Time | $4 Wick...



Let's eat with Linda! Today on Foodie Fridays, I am trying out Popeyes' Chicken for the first time! (Yes I am so late to the game.) For this mukbang I tried out their $4 Wicked Good Deal, which comes with chicken breast strips and two sides. Sasha4president highly suggested the red beans and rice and LennyStepbyStep mentioned in his mukbang that the biscuits were sooo good.



The verdict? Totally agree with the sentiment that Popeyes makes damn good biscuits. The red beans and rice was hands down my most favorite part of the meal surprisingly. I know their chicken is highly well rated but I still think for chicken, my personal preference is KFC. Overall I agree with the general consensus that KFC is more ubiquitous than Popeyes. Which is a shame since, Popeyes has great potential to rival the Colonel. Wish I had a Popeyes closer to me.

ALCATRAZ NIGHT TOUR + FINALLY GOT SNAPCHAT | VLOG | San Francisco | Expl...



What is this madness? Warning: This is a shaky video and very casual so I'm calling this a vlog. A hodge podge video of sorts.



This is footage from our Alcatraz Night Tour. Can you believe it, as a born and raised native San Franciscan, I've never been to Alcatraz? Well we finally took advantage and went on the night tour. We got lucky as the sun set, the fog swept in and gave us a spooky atmosphere.



If you notice throughout the video, there are orbs floating around. Some people believe this is a sign of ghosts or spiritual activity. Perfect Halloween spooky footage. Nonetheless, this place was also beauty. The night scenery took my breath away as the city looked like twinkling lights. Apparently the prisoners felt that the free world was so close yet so far. Wish I got sharper footage because you really can literally see from afar details of the city.. perhaps even city noise.

2.5 tablespoons fermented miso paste

2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil

Honey (to taste, I put about 1/4 cup maybe a tad less)

Korean red pepper powder or paprika (to taste and for color)

San Francisco sourdough (Boudin's or Semifreddi's are good chain options)

Cilantro chopped

2-3 Garlic cloved minced

Grass Fed Butter (I'm using German Butter)

Making Birthday Cake! | Strawberry Shortcake | Organic Ingredients | 生日蛋糕



I made this homemade birthday cake for my significant other. I defrosted some frozen strawberries since I didn't have any fresh on hand but everything else was amazing! The cake itself was decorated with whipped cream, strawberries and Milano Cookies (Dark Chocolate).


I brushed the cake itself with soaking syrup. Most soaking syrups use rum, but I decided to make my syrup out of Sauvignon Blanc. We happened to have a 2001 Starmont Sauvignon Blanc wine on hand from Merryvale. 

Below is the ingredients for the cake (I made two kinds). You can stick to one of the cake recipes, either one has a similar consistency and taste.

It is important that you weigh the ingredients by the scale for exact measurement. Don't try a online conversion. 

Layer One:
3 eggs
60 gm coconut sugar
60 gm cake flour
25 gm unsalted butter
¼ tsp vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon Cream of Tartar (optional)

Layer 2:
3 Large Eggs 
100g Coconut Sugar 
90g Cake Flour
15g Unsalted Butter 
1 tbsp Almond Milk
Dash Vanilla Extract
1/4 teaspoon Cream of Tartar (optional)

Instructions: 
1. Preheat oven to 170C / 350F.
2. Melt the butter in a microwave oven or double boiler. Mix in the vanilla extract. (And almond milk). Set aside.
3. Carefully separate egg yolks and egg whites. 
4. With an electric mixer (I'm using a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer) beat the egg yolks sugar. Start on low speed then move onto high speed. You will know it is ready when the yolks turn into a custard consistency.. or soft peak.  
5. (If you want a good cake, you need to move quickly to this next step, as the air in the eggs yolks will lose its form. ) In a large clean metal or glass (no plastic) mixing bowl without any trace of water or oil, beat the egg whites with an electric mixer. Start on a low speed then move onto high speed. When the egg whites turn to soft peak, add about 1/4 of cream of tartar to help stabilize the egg whites. Continue to beat air into the eggs whites until you get a stiff peak. Meaning if you flip the bowl, it keeps its form... or you could just pull the beaters out and see if the egg whites dont drip. 
6.  Lightly fold in egg whites into the egg yolk mixture. Sift in half of the cake flour. Fold gently as not to break the fluffiness of the batter. Repeat this step to fold-in the remaining beaten egg whites and cake flour.
7. Lightly stir in the melted butter, almond milk and vanilla extract into the batter. Scrape from the bottom and fold onto the surface. Don’t stir too hard. Combine ingredients well.
8. Pour into cake pans, lightly tap against surface to even out the batter and quickly put the cake pan into the preheated oven. Bake for approximately 20 minutes. Stick a toothpick to make sure it comes out clean. You want a cooked cake but not a dry cake.
9. Take out cake and invert it onto a rack. I like to cover the cake pan with a wet cloth to keep the cake moist while it cools down.
10. When the cake is cool, spread soaking syrup between the layers. You can cut the cake parallel to make two layers or just bake another layer like I did.
11. Decorate with whipped cream, strawberries and I put Milano cookies on the side to hide the spread marks. :P (Didn't have any fancy frosting spatula). Sift some powdered sugar for a pretty effect. Optional.

Soaking Syrup (this is to spread on top of the cake layers to prevent crumbs from sticking and to keep the cake moist). To be honest, I didnt measure the ingredients for soaking syrup. But a general rule of thumn is to equal parts coconut sugar and alcohol and a little bit of water to thin it out.
•  Coconut Sugar
•  Hot Water
•  Sauvignon Blanc
Heat the ingredients on stove in a pot. Cook on medium high heat then lower it until sugar has dissolved and some alcohol has evaporated. Make this quick as you don't want to burn the sugar but you want the sugar to have dissolved. Set aside and let cool before brushing the syrup on your cake.

BRTC Jasmine Water BB Cream Review | SPF 30 | K-Beauty | Shining BB



BRTC Korean brand, bb cream review. Great for dry or wrinkle prone skin. This one is called Jasmine Water BB Cream, with a text that says "Shining BB". Comes in a 35 gram squeeze tube to help prevent oxidation and minimize bacteria contamination. Some reviews I've seen state that this is suppose to be an auto adjusting BB cream. Similar to a CC cream but more coverage. I have a neutral pale undertone, so after blending this into my skin, the pink light shade did end up matching my skin a little. Not sure of the shade, as this was given to me in my UBI Beauty order.



This product has a SPF 30, which makes me feel the spf ingredient might be a mineral ingredient like zinc. Mineral sunscreen or sun protection is preferred for those with sensitive skin.



From what I could find of the ingredients, most of the active and natural ingredients are pretty safe. This does use phenoxyethanol as a preserving agent, meaning this is paraben free.



Finish is semi dewy, and very moisturizing.

Let's eat with Linda! Today's episode we are trying out Gilroy Garlic Fries. For a limited of time, McDonald's is offering these delectable garlic fries only in the San Francisco Bay Area. (Maybe in other parts of California too.) In addition, I'm pairing these fries with their Artisan Grilled Chicken Sandwich (Chicken, lettuce, tomatoes between a brioche like bun)! Yum! Bon Appétit!

How to Make Oatmeal Drop Cookies | RECIPE | No Butter | Dairy Free



Let's make Oatmeal Drop Cookies. This recipe uses applesauce in replacement with butter. The applesauce prevents the cookie from drying out. This creates a nice moist and delectable cookie. Great for backpacking trips or as treat on a  low calorie diet.



Ingredients:

A little more than 1/4 cup Rolled Oats

A tad less than 1 cup Flour (can use gluten free flour mix)

1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder

3/4 cup Applesauce

1/4 cup Turbinado sugar (can use brown sugar)

Dash of Salt

Nutmeg and Cinnamon (Optional)



Preheat oven to 375 Degrees.

Mix ingredients together. Form into golf balls and drop onto cookie tray. Slightly flatten cookies.

Bake Cookies at approximately 10 minutes. Should be firm, yet chewy. And slightly golden but be careful not to burn. Serve!

Review on all natural, aluminum free, cruelty free antiperspirant and deodorant by Body Brana (It Works! Sensitive Antiperspirant in Lemon Verbena). NOTE: I get a bit sciencey before the actual review. The version I bought is for sensitive skin, no baking soda. There is also a Summer Edition or a Winter Edition. The version you request, determines whether the bar will melt and glide under your armpits. Summer, stays solid better, winter melts better.



Highly recommend this product if you are concerned about aluminum and heavy metal build up. Or if you are just looking for a more natural alternative to convention antiperspirant and deodorants.



Product is cruelty free and comes in a variety of scents:

Rose Geranium

Men's Classic

Lemon Verbena



This is a unisex deodorant/antiperspirant, great for men and women.



I rate this 4/5 hearts! The product does what it claims, mildly reduces sweat, and keeps odors at bay. The best odor fighting deodorant on the natural organic market. Although price is normal for the natural market, but for conventional market, slightly pricey for .55 oz trial size. $4.95 not including shipping and handling. My total with shipping came to $7.70



Aleksandra is a sweetheart! She cut the scent in half because I said I was sensitive  to strong smells. The reduce scent works just as good as full strength!

Seattle Trip Part 1 | Snoqualmie falls | Lunch at Spice King | Malt Shak...



Travel vlog! Our three day trip to Seattle starts here! Grabbed a quick, cheap but super amazing delicious lunch at Spice King. Their Tandoori fish was smoky, sweet and moist! Served on a sizzling platter!



We made our way then to Snoqualmie falls. The views were majestic, and we later moved onto the Railway Museum. Because the  temperature was unusually hot,  we made a stop at Snoqualmie Falls Candy Factory and ordered a Malt Milkshake. The Maple Nut ice cream complimented the horlicks like flavor of the malt shake. Yum!

Dumpling Wrapper Hotteok / Hoddeok Recipe



Let's eat with Linda! We are making nice, warm, crispy, gooey and nutty "dumpling wrapper" Hoddeok. A type of korean sweet pancake & street food. This recipe is an adaptation of Aeri's Kitchen version of Dumpling Wrapper Hoddeok. Check out her original recipe here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Hvf2Q3BY9Q



Hotteok is usually made from leavened dough. This version is a hack and much quicker to make and produces a crispy consistency.



Ingredients:

Chopped Walnuts

Brown Sugar or Coconut Sugar

Cinnamon

Dumpling wrappers

water

and Oil for frying



1. To make the filling, combine brown sugar, cinnamon and walnuts in a small bowl. I am using more brown sugar than walnuts. The ratios should be mixed to your liking. If you want a specific measurement, check out Maangchi's recipe for hoddeok here:  http://www.maangchi.com/recipe/hoddeok



2. Place a small spoonful of filling in the middle of one dumpling wrapper.



3. Wet the edges of the wrapper and sandwich another dumpling wrapper over the previous one with filling.



4. Pleat or seal the edges with a fork or your fingers. Repeat with remaining filling and wrappers.



5.  Pour oil and pan fry the dumpling. When it is nice and golden brown on one side, flip it over and fry the other side.



6. The second time around the oil is already hot so be careful not to burn the wrappers.



7. Let cool and serve. Best eaten when warm, crispy and gooey!

April Skin is a Korean based online cosmetics and skincare brand. They are wonderful for people who love Korean cosmetics but have sensitive skin. One of the few Korean brands to have little to no fragrance in their products. Plus they live up to their hype. Providing a glowy, natural looking, buildable coverage.
